If you are new to shooting, and you would like to become an expert shooter, the best place to improve your skills is at a shooting range. This is one place you can learn all you need to know about guns and shooting.

If you are planning to visit a shooting range with a friend, or just by yourself, to shoot some rounds, there are some key essentials that you need. You cannot just walk into a shooting range, gun in hand and without anything else. Chances are that you will not be allowed in, let alone shoot anything. You can check what you will need with the shooting range you choose – most are ready to be helpful to beginners.

However, here are some key essentials that you will need to bring with you to a firing range.

Range Bag

Having a range bag is a musthave. You need a bag to carry your gun and the rest of your shooting gear. It might be a bit tricky getting a good range bag, but given that there is a huge selection of range bags you can choose from, it shouldnot be too hard to find something that suits most of your needs.

A good range bag should be durable, rugged, and waterproof. It should also have enough room to hold your gun, one more firearm, and all ofyour shooting accessories.

Safety Gear

When you go to a shooting range, you cannot go without protective gear. You need eye and ear protection. This means that you have to invest in quality safety goggles and a good pair of shooting headsets or ear defenders, before you can even think about shooting. Read this awesome blog post on the best hearing protection for shooting.

Alternatively, if you are not ready to buy protective gear, you can use the ones at the range, but you have to pay to use them.

It might be worthwhile to buy your own safety gear if you plan on going to the shooting range on a regular basis.

Ammunition

Most ranges offer ammunition for a fee, but it might be cheaper to buy your own and carry it to the range. If you plan on getting your own, make sure that you get the right ammunition for your firearm and know how to store it correctly.

Targets

Targets at a shooting range, like protective gear, are offered for a fee. If you plan on being a regular visitor at your shooting range, it is advisable that you buy your own shooting targets. This will be less costly than buying them at the range.

Shooting Buddy

It is always more fun to engage in recreational activities with a buddy. Consider going to the shooting range with someone who shares your passion. This could be a friend, work colleague, or even a family member, but make sure that at least one of you is over the legal age of 18.
