Oral hygiene is much more than brushing your teeth and using yarn or dental tape. Many of you have probably been taught to brush your teeth twice a day and to use yarn or dental tape at least once a day. - Take care of your toothbrush:
Yes it’s true! The toothbrush, which does so much for us and our oral health, is sometimes neglected and we end up not caring for it. Therefore, after washing your teeth, always brush your brush with water and leave it to dry vertically. It is important that it is well-ventilated and airy! This prevents bacteria and small organisms from forming between the bristles of your brush. Change your brush regularly – every 3 months or when you see that the brush bristles are beginning to sag.
- Wash your tongue:
Not only is it a hygienic and important act to prevent the appearance of bacteria: brushing the tongue prevents bad breath.
- Talk to your dentist and oral hygienist:

- Choose well what you drink (and eat)!
What you drink every day has a huge impact on the health and hygiene of your teeth. For example, sugar-sweetened beverages promote tooth decay. Prefer water, fruit juices, or milk. Similarly, also avoid any foods with too much sugar to prevent the formation of bacteria, plaque and cavities!
- Use fluoride.
You may think it’s just for kids, but it’s a central part of everyone’s oral hygiene and health. This strengthens the tooth enamel and helps prevent caries. You can find fluoride in toothpastes and elixir. Your dentist may also suggest fluoride treatments indicated for you.
- Quit smoking.
If you needed one more reason to stop smoking, here it is: nicotine and tar on cigarettes not only dye your teeth yellow, but also destroy your gums. Smoking creates an environment conducive to bacteria and plaque formation on your teeth and gums. Smoking damages tissue, degrades the bone and increases the likelihood of falling teeth. Worse still: tobacco increases the likelihood of oral cancer!
Also, most of the people thought that vape smoking doesn’t harm your teeth, but that’s not true and it has a same side effect like a normal smoking.
- Use a pipe cleaner.
Sometimes the yarn or dental tape is not enough to clean between your teeth. If there are wide gaps between your teeth, try using a pipe cleaner to clean these areas – these exist in various sizes, so if you are in doubt about which one is right for you, ask your dental practitioner or oral hygienist!
